The International Business Excellence (IBX) Awards recognised du with the prestigious Sustainability and Emerging Markets Award during a ceremony held on May 9, 2017. This year, a record number of firms competed at the third IBX Awards, which recognise business excellence from across the world.
IBX lauded the strides du has made in delivering tangible and sustainable impact across the social, environmental and economic pillars in the UAE to deliver not only value but also enhance happiness. The award was presented by Mr. Ali Ibrahim, Deputy Director General, Dubai Economy.
“Since we launched du a decade ago, we have endeavoured to ensure a triple bottom line strategy that delivers to the UAE National Agenda, particularly Expo 2020’s sustainability pillar, and is in in line with global benchmarks. In 2016, we were thrilled to have achieved our highest Gallup Employee Engagement score to date; in addition to this, our third store received LEED platinum certification, and we continued to invest in renewable energy,” said Abdulwahed Juma, Executive Vice President, Brand and Corporate Communications, du. “The recognition we have received from the International Business Excellence Awards is testament to our sustainability efforts, and only encourages us to continue and amplify the work that we are already doing.”
du has worked tirelessly to ensure a robust sustainability framework within its business, which is entrenched across four pillars – UAE identity, learning, environment and entrepreneurship, with an underlying framework of strong corporate governance towards ethical and transparent operations.
du’s last Sustainability Report shows progress across several key areas such as Emiratisation and employee engagement; its customers, by providing value that goes beyond telecommunications services; environmental impact through transformation of its signal towers; and the community, through a variety of commitments and initiatives including the popular Mawaed Al Rahman initiative organised every Ramadan.
The IBX Awards have quickly evolved into Dubai’s leading international business event, with hundreds of companies from over 20 countries, spanning four continents taking part. Each year the awards offer UAE firms the chance to compete with the best in the world. Dubai Economy have supported the awards through a strategic partnership since the start, helping promote Dubai’s reputation as a centre of business excellence. The IBX Awards are part of a global programme of business recognition designed by Awards International, based on a fully transparent judging process certified by Cranfield University. To win either of the 24 categories, entrants must be scored the highest by a panel of judges made up of local and international business leaders, first for their written entry, then for their finalist presentation.
